6/10/10 Allen Takes the Win in GIR High School Eliminator
June 15, 2010 Sam Martin
During the NHRA Drags Street Legal Drags presented by AAA, Derek Allen returned to victory lane for a win in the highly competitive High School Eliminator at Gateway International Raceway. Competition last week was pushed from Tuesday to Thursday due to inclement weather.
Allen only had one race not decided on the starting line and that was in his final round appearance. In the first round it was former Jr. Dragster standout, Cheyenne Bittle, from Belleville, Il. who turned on the red light to give Allen the win. In the second round it was Street Car Shootout competitor Tim Mallicoat Jr., competing in his ‘90’s era Chevrolet S-10.
Facing Allen in the final round, representing Hermann High School was Kegan Hagedorn driving his orange ’68 Chevelle. Allen was first off of the starting line and was able to use the advantage to take the stripe down track while Hagedorn could not get to the stripe first. The win marks another victory for Waterloo High School (Ill.) with Allen leading the charge.
Point leader Matt Gosch again missed competition due to commitments for his R/C racing campaign, but still holds the top spot with 253 points. Hagedorn is in second with 242. Allen moved to third this week with 232 points.
This upcoming weekend at GIR will feature Midnight Madness on Friday night and the return of the Outlaw All-Stars on Saturday. For more information on these events please visit GatewayRaceway.com.
