6/10/10 Jauernig Continues His Winning Ways at GIR
June 15, 2010 Sam Martin
Daryl Jauernig returned to victory lane in last week’s Tuesday Night Shootout Series, competed on Thursday due to weather, competing in the Street Car Shootout, alongside Eric Sanzottera who won the Big St. Charles Motorsports Quick Street Bike Shootout. Also collecting victories at Gateway International Raceway were Kevin Autenrieth and Anthony Samsel.
Jauernig qualified at the top of the Street Car Shootout with an 8.67 second pass. In eliminations Jauernig lined up against Ray Arthur’s “Suspicion” ’67 Camaro. Jauernig’s Mustang left the starting line first and pulled away from Arthur down track to take the win with an off the pace 9.21-second pass. On the other side of the ladder Tim Mallicoat Jr. faced off against Kevin Autenrieth in an all Chevrolet matchup. Mallicoat Jr. was driving the ’68 Camaro that his father made famous in the SCS. The race ended on the starting line as Autenrieth’s orange ’91 S-10 turned on the red light. Mallicoat Jr. made his first full pull of the night as he ripped off an 8.70 second run at 159 mph.
In the final round of the SCS the matchup could not have featured two cars any more diverse. Mallicoat was behind the wheel of his nostalgia big block Camaro and Jauernig was driving his relatively new nitrous assisted small motored Mustang. As with Mallicoat’s previous race, this too was settled on the starting-line. This time, however, the red light shined in Mallicoat’s lane giving Jauernig another victory in this season’s SCS competition.
Once again it was a monstrous red turbocharged bike campaigned by QuickTime Motorsports at the top of the qualifying order for the Big St. Charles Motorsports QSBS. This time it was Ed Biggs on the top of the list with a 7.76 second blast at 185 mph. Sanzottera was sitting in the fourth position in qualifying, struggling with a 9.15 second effort at just 120 mph.
In eliminations, both of the lead Hayabusas for QuickTime Motorsports, Biggs and Sanzottera, were paired up. Even with Sanzottera struggling in qualifying Biggs took a shot at the tree and lost. Biggs turned on the red-light, but it likely would not have mattered as Sanzottera’s Big St. Charles Motorsports sponsored Hayabusa stormed to a 7.70 second run at 192 mph. Biggs fell off of the pace to a 7.92 second effort at 186 mph. Rickey Johns aboard his ZX14 took on Keith Bobo on the opposite side of the ladder. Bobo was at the disadvantage on paper and also attempted a near perfect light, and he too cut it too close and turned on the red light. Johns unleashed his best pass of the night, an 8.72 second effort and took the win.
In the final round of the night in the QSBS Big St. Charles Motorsports rider, Eric Sanzottera, took on Johns. Both riders had incredible reaction times and neither turned on the red light. Sanzottera fought a hard wheelie, but kept the throttle down to win with a 7.91-second elapsed time, while Johns held his ground with an 8.77-second blast. With the win Sanzottera stretches his point lead to eight with 67 points. Biggs is in the second position with 59. Bobo sits in third with 48 and John Chant rounds out the top four with 30.
Autenrieth pulled double duty in his ’91 S-10 as he also competed in the Super Truck Showdown against Joe Rogers. Autenrieth was off of the starting line first and his 9.24 was more than enough to defeat the 12.03 of Rogers ’94 S-10. A newcomer walked away with the Sport Tuner trophy, as Semsel, defeated Brian Wallace. Wallace’s ’09 Cobalt managed a great 12.29 second pass in the final round while Samsel’s ’08 Mazda Protégé ran a very impressive 12.41 to collect the win.
